Blue, Illustration Friday.
This painting is part of a series called "The Four Seasons."
Whenever I paint a winter scene, I always use blue. Yes, I know this isn't earth shattering news--a lot of people do--but it has more to do with how I feel about winter. When I think about it, it is always in a negative way. I hate winter. It depresses me. I feel sad in the winter. I think that's why I associate blue with it--the winter blues. But, when I started writing this post, I began to wonder why. I really don't have a great reason for feeling this way, other than not liking the cold. Actually, winter is a great time for me. So many wonderful things happen and have happened in the winter for me.
Christmas New Years My grandpa's Birthday (Jan. 2) My birthday (Jan. 29) My husband's birthday (Feb. 1) My twins were born in winter (Feb. 8) Valentine's Day--not that it's my favorite holiday, but something dedicated to love can't be that bad! I fell in love with my husband in winter. I got engaged in winter. Now I'm stretching it a bit here, but, although my son wasn't technically born in winter--Nov. 23--but it is usually cold and snowy here by then, so I consider it winter. I was asked to illustrate the book in winter. This led to meeting many new friends--well at least I think I met most of them in the winter. I tend to get more productive, and come up with new ideas in the winter--maybe because I'm stuck inside!
Thinking about something a little differently sure can change the perspective on things--maybe winter isn't so bad!
More blue...

Winter is always hard for me too. I think it is good to remind yourself of the good stuff about Winter. I like the solitude of your winter scene, and how the sky is somewhat pink.

Maybe your winter blues are S.A.D. i.e., not enough sun! A broad spectrum lightbulb or two, and some extra outdoor time (with the vitamin D and other benefits) may perk you up. Your list seems like a happy one even for the darkest days of the year.
